Jay Teamer — Are We Returning to a Bay-Only VC Mindset?

Jay Teamer is a PhD candidate in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a background in Biotechnology, but his true passion is venture capital, where innovation, disruption, and impact come together. He sees VC as more than just funding—it’s a way to challenge outdated industries, drive real systemic change, and build solutions that shape the future. Whether it's biotech, deep tech, or entirely new markets, he is drawn to ventures that push boundaries and create lasting impact.

As the Director of Program Management and Due Diligence Lead at Nucleate, Jay has sourced and evaluated early-stage biotech and ecotech startups, conducted deep-dive diligence, and provided strategic recommendations to help founders scale. Working closely with investors, founders, and cross-functional teams has sharpened his ability to assess risk, identify high-potential ventures, and think critically about long-term growth.

What excites Jay most about venture capital is its constant movement. It's a balance between high-stakes decision-making and long-term vision, where every deal is a chance to back something that could change the world. He approaches investing through a lens of equity, making sure innovation isn’t just groundbreaking but also accessible and impactful. He thrives in spaces where strategy meets intuition, disruption leads to meaningful progress, and visionary ideas can potentially transform entire industries.

Jay joined LaunchTN as a Summer Associate in 2025 through the HBCUvc VC Training and Internship Program.
