Emerging Venture Leaders Award

Annually, we recognize emerging venture capital leaders who are breaking through the industry and changing outcomes.

As reported by Different Funds, of the 4,255 decision-making partners at 1,500 US venture capital firms, less than 3% are Black, and only 18% of VC firms have diverse management teams. Over 93% of venture firms have no Black representation at the partner level; and when we do lead our own firms, it amounts to only 4% of all VC firms.

The Emerging Leaders Award (previously 31 Under 31) is an annual nomination and selection process that amplifies and connects emerging talent in venture capital. This group of principals, associates, analysts, and ecosystem builders are leading the transition to a new innovation economy where the thoughts, ideas, leadership, and impact of capital allocation strategies are directed by diverse individuals.

Through programming and conversations with our community the emerging VC program is evolving to better fit the personal and professional development needs of our community. We are building a lifelong community that looks to leverage the institutional relationships and platform of HBCUvc to create unique opportunities for our participants to accelerate their careers, gain deeper insights into the innovation economy, and build deeper relationships amongst themselves. Program participation is invite-only.
